Ralph Rimpell’s “Pound for Pound” Best Fighters in Boxing IV

By Ralph Rimpell, IronBoxing.com

It has been 14 months and for another boxing website when last I wrote my view of who I felt were the 10 best fighters in the world of boxing at the time. Mayweather was still retired, the Margarito-Cotto match was almost a reality, and De La Hoya was still a welterweight contender. Quite a few things have happened since then. Before I begin, I would like first thank Ironboxing’s Webmaster, Norman Lucas, and Editor, John Martinez, for giving me a forum for where I can express my pure unadulterated views as a boxing writer/reporter. For those that are not familiar with my articles, you will find that I may at times be controversial, but I back up my claims with proof. Shall we begin? The ten best fighter’s “Pound for Pound” (P4P) are: READ MORE

Manny can’t KO Cotto?

By Edi Aznar, SunStar.com.ph

FREDDIE Roach is expecting the Manny Pacquiao vs. Miguel Cotto fight on Nov. 14 to go the distance.

“We’re going in there looking for 12 hard rounds. You can’t look for the knockout with this guy because he’s very resilient,” said Roach in a report posted at GMANews.tv. READ MORE

Relive Hopkins vs Jones Jr 1

By BoxingNewsWorld.blogspot.com

The second fight between Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr is almost certain next year. Boxing fans like me were waiting for this fight to happen long time ago. But it's good that it is finally made.

The first Hopkins-Jones fight was in May 1993. They fought for the vacant IBF Middleweight title. Watch the fight (clips by starjammerboxing2):

Jones-Hopkins: It might not be too late for a good show

By William Dettloff, The RING

To many, it’s no big news that Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones have finally come to terms for a rematch to their May 1993 middleweight title fight.

If it had come in, say, 2003, before Jones was sent snoring deep into the night by Antonio Tarver and then Glen Johnson, and when Hopkins was still younger than Methuselah, its reception almost certainly would have been universally positive. READ MORE

Edwin Valero should live alone

Boxing News World

A report by USAToday.com said that Edwin Valero, the hard hitting WBC lightweight champion from Venezuela, was arrested by Venezuelan police sometime last week on domestic violence (allegedly hitting his mother and a sister during “a family dispute”).

If this report is true, this will certainly off my respect for the hard hitting boxer. Hitting a woman is already a no no to me. Striking your mother or your sister is totally unacceptable to me no matter how you put it. If you can’t control your temper, stay away from your family. Live alone.

Max Kellerman right to shut off Floyd Mayweather Jr.

By George Kimball, Boston Herald

HBO’s Max Kellerman has taken some heat from people who ought to know better for pulling the plug on a scheduled in-ring interview with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the aftermath of last weekend’s mismatch with Juan Manuel Marquez. The contretemps developed only after Mayweather, having already declined to answer the one question anybody cared about - his having come in two pounds over the 144-pound contractual weight, thereby costing him a reported $600,000 - tried to wrest the microphone away from Kellerman. Vitali Klitschko - Can Anyone Beat Him?

By James Slater, EastSideBoxing.com

Even though he is 38, it seems, amazingly, as though WBC heavyweight king Vitali Klitschko is getting even better. "Dr. Iron Fist's" defensive skills, his clever and astonishingly agile use of his legs, combined with his overall reflexes were quite stunning to see last night as he dominated a brave Chris Arreola on the way to a 10th-round retirement win. Bernard Dunne’s Pride wounded following loss of World Title

By EastSideBoxing.com

Bernard Dunne’s pride was the only thing hurting this morning following the loss of his WBA World Super Bantamweight title to Thai whirlwind Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym at the Hunky Dorys World Title Fight Night at The O2 in Dublin. As a precautionary measure Dunne was taken to Beaumont Hospital following the third round defeat but was released with a clean bill of health less than an hour later. READ MORE

Poonsawat's win not shocking at all

Boxing News World

Several boxing writers are calling the victory of Thai Poonsawat over Bernard Dunne a shocking upset. To me, no disrespect to Dunne who is an excellent boxer in his own right, Poonsawat’s win wasn’t surprising at all. Those who have watched Poonsawat previous fights can attest that this kid is good. In fact, The Ring ranked Poonsawat 3rd, two places higher than Dunne. EastSideBoxing.com and BoxRec.com also placed the Thai slugger ahead of the Irishman. The thing is Asian boxers do not have lots of opportunity to fight in a big stage compared to fighters from the Americas, Mexico or Europe. So people outside their countries don’t get the chance to watch them fight. They remain relatively unknown and as a result they are usually tagged as underdogs in big or title fights. But in reality, these fighters are good if not better than most of the fighters in their class.

The Poonsawat-Dunne fight is now available on YouTube.

How Manny Pacquiao beats Miguel Cotto…strict gameplan

By Gareth Davies, Telegraph, co.uk

Freddie Roach is concocting a strict gameplan for Manny Pacquiao to follow against Miguel Cotto, the Puerto Rican whom the Filipino faces in an American ring in Las Vegas in 6 and a half weeks’ time.

Ten days into training camp in the Shape Up Gym in Baguio City, in The Philippines, a departure from his previous dozen camps, there are positive noises emerging. That said, Roach is concerned by local distractions, while in the same breath remains amazed once again by Pacquiao’s conditioning and appetite for training. READ MORE

Floyd Mayweather Jr: Superstar!

By Julius Stecker, boxing24.com

I have been accused of many things. Floyd Mayweather fans have called me a ‘Hater’ and they have called me a biased Pacquiao fan. But one thing is for sure now, after Mayweather-Marquez did 1 million PPV buys. Floyd Mayweather is a superstar. Love him or hate him. He is a money maker. Now the question you have to ask is. Where can Floyd make the most money in the future? He really only has 2 options. Is it with Manny Pacquiao, or Sugar Shane Mosley? Or maybe both? Let’s take a look. READ MORE
