Poonsawat's win not shocking at all

Boxing News World

Several boxing writers are calling the victory of Thai Poonsawat over Bernard Dunne a shocking upset. To me, no disrespect to Dunne who is an excellent boxer in his own right, Poonsawat’s win wasn’t surprising at all. Those who have watched Poonsawat previous fights can attest that this kid is good. In fact, The Ring ranked Poonsawat 3rd, two places higher than Dunne. EastSideBoxing.com and BoxRec.com also placed the Thai slugger ahead of the Irishman. The thing is Asian boxers do not have lots of opportunity to fight in a big stage compared to fighters from the Americas, Mexico or Europe. So people outside their countries don’t get the chance to watch them fight. They remain relatively unknown and as a result they are usually tagged as underdogs in big or title fights. But in reality, these fighters are good if not better than most of the fighters in their class.

The Poonsawat-Dunne fight is now available on YouTube.
