Some comments on ‘Majority of boxing writers say Manny Pacquiao is the best boxer pound-for-pound’

By BoxingNewsWorld.blogspot.com

Here are some of the comments I received through email. Thank you all.

“I'm amazed at how many writers actually buy into this P4P nonsense. I was also happy to see a couple of writers that were able to separate themselves from the pure hype approach of this era and (were) objective. There's no such thing as the best p4p fighter, especially in an era where we have titlists who do NOT fight each other. How would anyone really know who's the best when the best only fight carefully selected opponents? Being the best businessman in boxing is far from synonymous with being the best fighter.

I'm glad to have participated in your poll.”

“Was surprised to see you asked Kelly Swanson for her opinion, considering that she's Floyd's publicist. =)”

Why the survey?

Some guys from a boxing website are wondering what am I going to do with the result of my poll, well the answer is nothing. The study was conducted to give a reliable answer to a question that lingered in my mind for quite some time – since the time when Yahoo! Sports posted this article "Rankings: Mayweather edges Pacquiao". As one might notice, the pound-for-pound rankings made by Yahoo Sports were based on boxing writers votes. However, only 28 writers participated and I don’t have any idea as to why only 28 were invited considering that there are perhaps hundreds of knowledgeable and impartial writers in the industry. In that poll, Floyd squeaked Manny by a mere two votes. I was then wondering what if that 28 was increased to 50. Will the results change? Well, I got the answer or at least I want to think I got the answer. The number of voters indeed mattered big, at least in this survey. However, this study is by no means intended to disrespect Yahoo Sports! or whoever made that poll.
