Welterweights Freddy Hernandez (25-1, 18 KOs) and Damian Frias (16-1, 7 KOs) will exchange blows later today in Laredo, Texas in a 10-round contest for the WBC Latino Welterweight Title belt.
Mexican ‘El Riel’ Hernandez is riding a four-year eight-bout unbeaten streak dating back to his only loss – a disputed one-point split decision loss to Golden Johnson on February 25, 2005. His last fight was a unanimous decision victory over Hicket Lau (20-21-2, 9 KOs) on July 31, 2009.
Cuban southpaw Damian’Devo’ Frias, a fierce tactician and the holder of the title at stake, is also riding an unbeaten streak of 12 fights. The only blemish on his boxing record was a four-round unanimous decision loss to Raymond Betancourt (7-4, 2 KOs) on April 3, 2004 in his fifth professional fight. His last fight was a 10-round unanimous decision victory over Edwin Algarin (10-5-1) on Jan. 16, 2009.
