Shane Mosley got two lucky punches in the second round of his fight on Saturday night against Floyd Mayweather. Then, as he often does, Mayweather decided that was enough.
After that, Mayweather took Mosley to school. It was one of those advanced classes, too. It was the kind of schooling that demonstrates why Mayweather is the best, most techincal and intelligent fighter in any of the fighting sports today.
Nothing Mayweather does in the ring is sexy. There are few spectacular knockouts but his boxing skills are superior to anyone else's on the planet. That was apparent against Mosley.
After those two hard rights landed by Mosley the smarter Mayweather dominated with a series of piercing rights, surgical hooks and expertly utilized a dazzling speed advantage. Mayweather, incredibly, was in the best shape I've ever seen him and that's saying something.
Mayweather reached into Mosley's chest and slowly removed his heart round by round.
This fight wasn't close. It wasn't. It was never going to be and anyone who thought Mosley would win doesn't know boxing.
I scored the fight 118-110. That's being generous. Mayweather won 10 rounds in a row.
It's time for the media and boxing fans to stop de-valuing Mayweather's historical importance and ranking because they don't like him personally and realize this is one of the greatest fighters in a generation.
Now comes the important stuff after this sham of a fight has concluded. What happens next? The answer will impact the future of boxing.
And if that answer isn't Mayweather fighting Manny Pacquiao then boxing will continue to be a joke.
If that fight does happen Mayweather will destroy Pacquiao, too, because there's no one out there on Mayweather's level right now. No one.
This fight should've never happened but it did and Mayweather dominated.
Now, what's next, boxing? Do the right thing. Let's get Mayweather and Pacquiao in the ring.
Do what the fans want.
For once.
